Our Mission
Inspired by the Sikh tradition of Langar, we support low‑income San Diegans with free, nourishing meals and dignity. Through interfaith partnership and practical resources, we work to reduce hunger and strengthen community.
        About the Founder
Yasmine Grewal founded Langar to live the Sikh principles of seva (selfless service) through an interfaith coalition serving San Diego. Yasmine’s vision is to help folks in need of food and impact hunger by feeding the needy — always with dignity, community, and compassion.
With partners like St. John’s Church, the Interfaith Shelter Network of San Diego County, Feeding San Diego, and Sharia’s Closet, she organizes weekend meal distributions, fundraises for vegetarian meals, and connects neighbors to benefits through a multilingual CalFresh resource. She continues to convene faith communities and local organizations to build practical, dignity‑first solutions to hunger.
How I Started
I began by partnering with St. John’s Church to serve weekend meals, fundraising with local Desi groups to source food. Listening to neighbors, I learned what kept families from being fed and focused on dignity‑first distribution.
From there, I built a multilingual CalFresh resource and reached out across faith communities to form an interfaith coalition addressing hunger in San Diego.
What is Langar?
Langar is the Sikh tradition of offering free, vegetarian meals to anyone — regardless of background or belief — as a practice of seva (selfless service), equality, and community. Our project brings this spirit into an interfaith coalition serving San Diego.
